All Signs Point to Yes

Days to departure for Vancouver: 7

Visa status: maybe this week “but no promises...”

When I was a li’l squirt, I had a Magic 8 ball. The most frustrating “fortune” it produced was “all signs point to yes.”

“Are the Ninja Turtles real and will Donatello dump April for me?”

“All signs point to yes.”

“And will I be a famous writer/paleontologist/rock star/president?”

“All signs point to yes.”

“And will I develop superpowers and save the universe?”

“All signs point to yes.”

What a cop out! Well, is it actually “yes,” or an apparently unforeseen “no?”

(Against all possible odds, none of those things have come true… yet.)

Well, as far as Canada goes, all signs once again point to “yes!” We’re still waiting for the official go-ahead; however, yesterday yet another star aligned in our favor:

UBC informed me that I’d won an award with a handsome sum of money attached “in recognition of my academic achievement.” I’m not even there yet! No pressure, right…?

As far as omens go, this one feels golden – or at the very least, quite flattering!

And if our visas aren’t ready by Thursday, I also have cover now for making a trip to the Consulate when we get to São Paulo; I don’t have to show up just to whine because I can turn in this award letter as further evidence of financial stability, and while I’m there I just might mention our suffocatingly tight schedule… and beg for mercy!

So, ask me this weekend whether we’re going to Canada, and I’ll tell you “all signs point to yes!”
